POETIC JUSTICE: History, Heroism, and the Reemergence of Hope

Come celebrate local art with POETIC JUSTICE, a Group Gallery Show in Wilmington, DE! Spend time with fellow creatives and enjoy new work inspired by history, resistance, resilience, and hope.

Exhibitions Statement by Michael of the Lē:

ware not confined to stand with only those that look like us. The human condition demands the opposite: that we love one another, stand united, and help to progress the rights of all. Moreover, as the contributions that historically marginalized groups have made to society are literally being erased, that statement is critically important. Many of the rights that we are afforded as a society are a result of tireless efforts by unsung heroes of justice. Let us use their stories to stand united.

Through poetry and visual arts, this exhibition will provide specific events and highlight freedom fighters throughout history. It is an artistic gathering of information to be leveraged as intelligence to help inspire a new generation of people.  Attendees will leave with an understanding of how history impacts progress, shapes perception, and demands action. And, hopefully, leave with a sense of compassion for the plight of their fellow human being — despite any differences. Historical figures and events have proven these objectives to be possible.

This exhibition is inspired by the works of Michael Of The Lē, a multifaceted literary artist whose work is rooted in advocacy, undergirded by hope. A poet, writer, and orator, Michael intricately weaves words of resistance and resilience, threaded by faith. He frequently references historical events and figures to serve as a blueprint — still applicable to modern times. This is effectively done by acknowledging both the beautiful and ugly parts of history to facilitate safe environments of learning, conversation, and inclusion.Through his creative work and his life, Michael advocates for all marginalized groups including BIPOC, women and children, the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, the disabled, and the elderly.
